Big.

My intent behind this project was to showcase the many accomplishments of my Grandfather, John D. Stephens, or as his grandkids call him, “Big”. His runway project at the Atlanta Airport was groundbreaking and changed the trajectory of the city forever. He has been continually honored for his determination to build a strong community, bringing new job opportunities and financial gain, as well as the contributions he made to better the environment through his recycling of natural resources. I set out to photograph him at the airport with the intent of honoring his accomplishments, however, I realized that it is his love for life that makes this project, which goes far beyond his accomplishments. The experience of riding to the airport with him to revisit one of his life’s greatest works was a day that I will cherish forever. I’m thankful to have the opportunity to honor who he was as an innovator and entrepreneur, but really, who he is as a Grandfather.
